Salford promise £650k to fix roads for good
Over the next three months, Salford City Council say they are investing £650,000 to improve the condition of the city’s roads. In the week starting Monday 23 May, work will take place at Folly Lane, Swinton, Lancaster Road, Claremont, Half Edge Lane, Eccles and Wellington Road, Eccles. Up to 30 stretches of road will be covered with a new protective surface under a plan to reduce the overall amount spent on highway repairs. Surveys have identified areas of the road network suitable for this improvement, which increases the lifespan of targeted streets by up to ten years. The cost of this work, which is being carried out by Urban Vision, is significantly lower than other forms of road maintenance and it can also be completed much quicker, say the council, causing less disruption for residents and motorists. The work is being undertaken on a phased basis. Councillor Derek Antrobus, Salford City Council's lead member for planning said: “In recent years we have transformed our approach to highway maintenance in Salford. We are investing in our roads now through a targeted programme to avoid having to pay for more costly repairs in the future. Thanks to this approach, we are seeing real improvements to our roads, which are now safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists."
