Parking Attendant Attacked Before United Match - Wed 29 October
A car park attendant was assaulted by youths armed with metal bars.
At around 7.40pm on Wednesday 29 October 2008, the 39-year-old victim was working on Aubrey Street, Salford Quays, when he went to assist his brother, who he thought was being assaulted. He chased a youth away before seven or eight people returned a short time later and attacked the victim.
He was hit with a metal bar, causing cuts to his head. He received stitches to his injuries and is now recovering at home.
The offenders were a group of girls and boys, although some of them may have adults. They are all described as being white. There is no further description at this stage.
Detective Constable Andy Quinn, from Salford CID, said: "The man was working in a busy area shortly before the Manchester United game at Old Trafford and I am certain someone would have seen what happened.
"I would appeal to anyone that may have been on their way to the match, or in the area at the time of the incident to contact police.
"The man was outnumbered by a gang of youths and attacked. This type of behavious in completely unacceptable."
Witnesses are asked to call Salford CID on 0161 856 5351, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
