Man Critical Following Collision - Worsley

Motorists are advised to avoid a stretch of the A580 East Lancashire Road in Salford this morning following a serious road traffic collision.

At about 5.15am on Wednesday 29 October 2008, police were informed that a blue Volkswagen Golf had collided with a lamppost near to the junction with Walkden Road.

Officers attended along with firefighters who had to free the 28-year-old driver.

He has been taken to Hope Hospital with serious head and internal injuries and remains in a critical condition.

Road closures are in place at the scene and diversions have been set up.

Motorists are advised to find alternative routes as the closures are expected to remain in place for some time and there is already a build-up of traffic.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Area Four Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 7761.
