Burglar Caught on CCTV - Eccles

An opportunist thief stole jewellery and a bike from a house in Eccles.

CCTV at the house on Monton Road shows the offender loitering outside before entering shortly after through an open patio door.

The theft happened at around 11am on 15 September 2008, while the victim was upstairs.

The thief stole an engagement and eternity ring and escaped on a stolen Claud Butler mountain bike.

Police Constable Amanda Weems, from the burglary unit at Swinton police station, said: "The intent of the offender is clear as the CCTV we have recovered clearly shows the offender scoping the address before the burglary.

"Sadly this incident demonstrates how quickly someone can get into your house and steal your valuables, if your home is not secure.

"Tackling burglaries is a top priority for the Force and as part of Operation Guardian, extra resources have been put in place to address the recent rise in this type of crime.

“One in three burglaries is still down to people leaving doors and windows unlocked or open and so, I would like to take the opportunity to encourage residents to lock up and keep their belongings safe.

"I would appeal to anyone who may recognise the offender to come forward and speak to police."

Anyone with any information is asked to call the burglary unit on 0161 856 5250, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
