Would-be theives pursued a man on foot and repeatedly tried to rob him in Salford. The 29-year-old victim's ordea lasted about 20 minutes as he walked along Regent Road towards the M602 at about 5.45pm on Wednesday 22nd October.

As he walked towards the motorway, the victim was followed by two men who tried to snatch a bag out of his hands. When this failed, they continued to walk behind him throwing stones and other objects at his head, causing him to suffer minor swelling and a cut to his back.

After another aborted attempt to snatch the bad, the victim was forced to flee along the hard shoulder of the M602.

He described the first offender as white, aged about 16-18 years old, 5ft 7in tall and with a pale complexion. He was wearing a cream hooded jacket with green stripes along both arms, and black tracksuit trousers tucked into black socks and black trainers.

The second man was also white, between 18 and 19 years old, 6ft tall with blond hair and had overlapping or crooked bottom teeth. He was wearing a charcoal jacket with a white logo on his left chest, black tracksuit pants tucked into black socks and black trainers.

Later that evening, at about 7.45pm, police were informed that a man was confronted on South Langworthy Road in Weaste by two men fitting the description of the offenders, although he was not injured. About 45 minutes later, two men again fitting the description of the offenders were reported to have made verbal threats at the Metrolink Station on Eccles New Road.

Police are investigating whether the incidents are linked and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Police Constable Michelle Ingham from Salford CID, said: "We are keeping an open mind as to whether the two youths who followed the victime are the same youths who were causing a nuisance in the area later that evening."

"What is certain is that the victim was subjected to a protracted ordeal in which he was tormented by these two youths. Not content with trying to steal from him, they followed him along the road and threw objects at him.

"He had to flee onto the M602 motorway and potentially place himself in danger just to get away from them,

"It must have been a frightening experience for the victim and we are determined to catch those responsible. I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to call Salford CID on 0161 856 5097 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
