OAP Headbutted - Clifton
An 80-year-old motorist was headbutted in the face by a man who climbed into his passenger seat when he went to drop off some friends.
At about 10.30pm on Saturday 27 September 2008, the victim drove two of his friends home from the pub and stopped his dark blue Renault Clio outside a house on Delamere Road, Clifton. He sat in his car with the engine running to watch his friends go into their home, when two youths walked by his car.
One of them then turned round, opened the passenger door and got in. The other youth then tried to open the back doors, but they were locked.
Fearing for his safety, the motorist then moved off and drove down Delamere Road. The youth in the passenger seat them leant over and headbutted the man in the face.
This caused swelling, bruising and soreness to the head
The offender who jumped into the car was described as white, 6ft tall, medium build wearing a light-coloured bomber jacket and black hair. The other youth was shorter, white, with a medium build, with blond/light brown wavy hair. They were earlier seen with two similar-looking youths, but they didn't take part in the incident.
Officers now want to speak to them.
Detective Constable Paul Manivannan of Swinton volume crime team said: "This was a violent, unprovoked attack on an elderly man who was just dropping his friends off.
"The youths were clearly drunk and possibly assumed that the man offered some kind of taxi service.
"It is fortunate that this didn't have more serious consequences because the elderly man was assaulted while at the wheel of his car."
