Road Traffic Collision - Multiple collision - Swinton
A man is in hospital with spinal injuries after a car drove at a police officer and collided with a number of vehicles in Swinton. Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which began on Folly Lane at the junction of Worsley Road at about 6.15pm on Sunday 28 September 2008.
A police officer on patrol came across a collision between a silver Astra and another car, but as she got out of the police car to speak to the two drivers, the driver of the Astra got back into his car and drove towards her.
The car did not hit the officer but collided with the police car before driving away onto Patington Lane and Station Road.
The Astra subsequently collided with a further six vehicles including a Peugeot motor scooter on Bolton Road, Clifton.
The rider of the scooter, a 29-year-old man, was taken to hospital, where he remains with spinal injuries and a head injury. His condition is described as stable.
The Astra continued to drive after hitting the scooter and collided with a stationary Ford Mondeo near the junction of Manchester Road and Broadhurst Avenue, where the driver attempted to run off.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and remains in police custody.
The passenger of the Astra was taken to hospital with a fractured eye socket.
The officer was not injured but was left extremely shaken.
