Police Release Picture of Man Fighting for his Life
Police in Salford have released a picture of a man who is fighting for his life in hospital in a bid to piece together what happened to him following a serious assault. Dion Leslie Etchells, 26, was admitted to Salford Royal Hospital at 9.30pm on Friday 12 September 2008 with head injuries, having been brought in by ambulance from Parkway Grove, Little Hulton.
The man discharged himself from hospital on Saturday 13 September 2008, against medical advice.
He was later found collapsed on Hardman Street in Manchester city centre at 2am on Sunday 14 September 2008.
He was re-admitted to hospital where his condition is described as life threatening.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the Parkway Grove area on Friday night and who may have witnessed the assault.
They also want anyone who may know where Dion may have gone between his having discharged himself from hospital and collapsing in Manchester.
Detective Sergeant John Andrew, of Salford CID, said: “Dion is in intensive care and it is vital we find out who attacked him and catch them.
“There’s a period of between 16 and 18 hours when Dion was possibly wandering the streets and we really need to piece together what happened to him then, so I’m appealing to anybody who recognises the picture of him and who might have seen him on Saturday to get in touch with us.”
A 19-year-old man from Little Hulton was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been bailed until 14 November 2008 pending further inquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Salford CID on 0161 856 5351 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
