Staff Threatened During Armed Robbery at Garden Centre - Eccles

Armed raiders threatened to chop the hand off a garden centre worker during a robbery in Patricroft, Eccles.

At around 4.30 pm on Friday 8 August 2008, two men entered the Head Gardener on the Barton Business Park, Cawdor Street. One man, armed with a machete, approached the manager and demanded cash. A second offender went upstairs and punched a member of staff in the face before ordering him, and another member of staff downstairs.

The offender with the machete grabbed the arm of one of the employees and threatened to chop it off.

The men then escaped with an amount of cash in a Renault Laguna.

One of the offenders is described as white, 5ft 10in tall, in his late 20’s or early 30’s and of slim build. He spoke with a local accent, was dressed in dark clothing and a balaclava, and armed with a machete.

The second offender is described as white, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall, in his late 20’s or early 30’s and of stocky build. He spoke with a local accent and was dressed in dark clothing and a balaclava.

Detective Inspector Caroline Walker from the Volume Crime Team in Salford, said: “This was a terrifying raid that has left the staff members involved understandably traumatised. The offenders were armed and extremely dangerous. They made shocking threats but thankfully no one was seriously hurt.

"I would appeal to anyone that may have been in Barton Business Park at around the time of the incident or who has any information whatsoever about who may be responsible for this robbery to contact Police.”

Various new security systems have been put in place at the store.
