Doctor's car stolen following crash - Weaste
A doctor's car was stolen whilst she was helping a man at the scene of a collision in Salford. Officers are now appealing for anyone who might have seen the stolen car since it was taken to come forward.
Just before 4.50pm today, Wednesday 13 August 2008, a 74-year-old pedestrian was involved in a collision with a single-decker bus on Eccles Old Road in Weaste.
The man was quite badly injured during the collision, and a doctor who happened to be passing at the time stopped her car at the scene and got out to help.
In her haste to assist she left the car keys in the ignition.
However, as she was tending to the man, who had head injuries, somebody stole her car. There were no medical supplies in the car.
It was a red Renault Clio registration NY05 RZN.
The injured man has since been taken to hospital having sustained a serious head injury. He remains in a stable critical condition.
Inspector John Kelly from Swinton Police Station said: "Its unthinkable why someone would take someone's car when they are just trying to help a man who has been seriously hurt. This woman's compassion has been totally taken advantage of by a pathetic opportunistic thief, and we are determined to catch whoever was responsible."
In a statement isued through GMP the doctor is quoted as saying:"I am very disappointed at what has happened, but I would do the same again."
Anyone with any information about this incident, or who thinks they might have seen this car since it was stolen, is asked to contact police on 0161 856 5417 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
