Police arrest further 10 people in relation to disorder in Salford and Manchester
Greater Manchester Police has today arrested 10 people as part of the investigation into the August disorder.
Operation Valant was launched by Greater Manchester Police to identify and arrest those involved in the widespread disorder across Manchester city centre and Salford on 9 August 2011. Following a series of raids today, 2 February 2012, 10 people wanted on suspicion of a number of offences, including violent disorder and multiple burglaries, have been arrested and remain in police custody for questioning. It brings the total number of arrests since the investigation began to more than 390, more than 200 of which have been put before the courts. Assistant Chief Constable Steve Heywood said: "No one here in Manchester, and no one in GMP, will ever forget the shameful scenes of violent disorder we witnessed that night. "As recently as last week, we saw a man jailed for five-and-a-half years for his part in the disorder which shows how the criminal justice system has worked together to bring those responsible to justice. "Since the disorder, a dedicated team of officers have worked tirelessly to identify as many of those involved as possible, trawling hours of CCTV footage and using forensic technology to identify suspects. "I would again like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their fantastic support and for coming forward with information that has enabled Greater Manchester Police to make hundreds of arrests and show our communities that those involved in the disorder will be held to account." Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. Source: GMP.
