Another Manchester drug dealer has been jailed as part of Operation Audacious.

Prem Gabroo (born 11/11/1991) of Lomond Road, Peel Hall has today, Friday 20 January 2012, been sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to spend 2 years in prison. He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

Gabroo was just one of 75 people arrested on 6 December 2011, as part of Operation Audacious, Manchester’s biggest crackdown on street-level drug dealing.

Today’s result takes the total number of people sentenced so far for this operation to 18, to a total of more than 43 years in prison between them.

Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson who is leading Operation Audacious, said: “Another drug dealer has been taken off our streets and is now behind bars, where they belong. This operation has shown that regardless of your age, if you choose to get involved in the sale and supply of illegal drugs, then you will pay the consequences.

“We are sending a strong message to criminals in Manchester that any form of drug-related activity is simply not acceptable in any of our communities.

“We will continue in our work each day to deal with those who choose to ignore this and we thank the public for their assistance in helping us to do this.”

On Tuesday 6 December 2011, police carried out 100 warrants at the homes of those suspected of drug dealing across Manchester divisions, as well as at addresses in Salford, Stockport and Bolton.

The operation had been planned over a period of months, as officers built up intelligence passed on from the local community on those who were suspected of street drug dealing.

Hundreds of officers were involved in the strikes for Operation Audacious and the actions of these officers were watched by more than 130 members of the community. In a first for GMP, they were invited along so they could witness first-hand how police are putting a stop to drugs activity in their neighbourhood.

The operation has been closely supported by the Courts and the Crown Prosecution Service, who have had a team of prosecutors providing ongoing advice and charging decisions.
