Bungled bank job - police release CCTV
Police have issued a CCTV image of a bungling robber who tried to steal from a bank in central Manchester. They are asking the community to provide any information about the attempted robbery in which a man handed a note to bank cashiers which read: "This is a robbery; do not say or do anything. Fill the bag with £50 and £20 notes. I have a gun in my right arm. Hurry up." The man is described as white, in his early 20s, of slim build and 6ft tall. He was wearing a black scarf that covered his face. Detectives investigating have released a CCTV image of the suspect. At about 1pm on Thursday 15 December 2011, the offender, with his face partially concealed, went into the Lloyds TSB on Mosely Street in Manchester and queued up with other customers. When he went to the counter he handed a the note to the cashier. He handed a bag to the cashier who went away. After a few minutes the cashier did not return so the offender left. Officers have released a CCTV image taken from the bank in a bid to try and trace him. Detective Constable Keith Gibbs said: "This was a bizarre incident, but all that matters to us is that a man made threats to a member of staff at a busy bank and implied that he had a gun. "We would urge anyone with information, or anyone who may recognise this man, to come forward." Anyone with information is urged to call police on 0161 856 3555 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
