Safety advice issued after park robberies
Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Salford Division are urging people to hide away valuables and be aware of their surroundings after a number of robberies in a local park. Thieves have been mainly targeting young people who have been riding pedal bikes through the Walkden area into Parr Fold Park. They have been threatening them before stealing the bike. Arrests have been made in relation to the offences but police from Salford West Neighbourhood Policing Team are eager to raise awareness of the issue. Sergeant Rob Riddell said: “We have worked tirelessly to make these arrests but it is important people take precautions so they are less likely to fall victim to this type of crime in the future. “My advice is to be mindful of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity or people you may be wary of. If you are riding a bike, steer clear of people who ask if they can use it if you don’t know them. Avoid listening to your ipod or using a mobile phone and don’t advertise the fact you may have expensive possessions on your person.” To report crime call police on 0161 872 5050 or for more information visit www.gmp.police.uk.
