Arsonists target house - Salford
Arsonists smashed the back window of a Swinton house before setting it alight. The attack took place at about 9.35pm on Sunday 8 August 2010, on Anson Road. The offenders got out of a black Mitsubishi Shogun, smashed a window at the back of the house, and went inside. A short time later, smoke started coming out of the back of the house and the 4x4 sped away. Nobody was in the house, and the fire service managed to put the blaze out. One man was described as white, of slim build and in his early 20s. He was wearing a red T-shirt. Police are appealing to anyone who has information to come forward and particularly want to hear from anyone who saw a red plastic petrol can, later found discarded at the scene, being filled up at a petrol station in the days leading up to the incident. Detective Constable Keith Thompson said: "Luckily nobody was hurt in the blaze, but the damage caused inside, particularly to the stairwell, was extensive. "We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the Shogun in the local area before or after the offence. "We are also interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen a red petrol can being filled up at local filling stations." Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5351 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
