Police search for bogus taxi driver
The man arrested in connection with an investigation into a fake taxi driver who attacked women has been bailed.

Officers from divisions across Greater Manchester Police have been investigating offences in December 2009 and January 2010, where a man driving a bogus taxi threatened women and forced them to perform sexual acts.

Detective Inspector Caroline Walker, of Swinton CID, said: "These incidents are very worrying but, thankfully very rare.

"We have been working closely with colleagues across the force and I would urge anyone who may have been subjected to a similar attack to call police.

"I must stress the importance of only using licensed and pre-ordered taxis and where possible I would urge women not to travel alone."

The 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and theft has been bailed until 23 February 2010 pending further police inquiries.

Victims or witnesses to incidents are asked to call police on 0161 856 535, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
