Renown Salford artist Geoffrey Key today shared his views on the Totem Pole with SalfordOnline.

He tells us that he is keen for it to stay in Salford but can forsee the difficulties with it being erected outdoors especially with the famous Salford weather.

He also did a post graduate course in wood carving and explains the problems with adding a wood preservative to a sculpture of that height.

Most of all he is concerned about Salford preserving items from it's past, for the future as far too many buildings etc have been lost in the name of progress.

The popular decision would appear to be that the Totem Pole must stay in Salford, but where is proving to be more difficult than we thought.

It has to stay in Salford, what about incorporating it with the Buffalo Bill visit, I know one is Canadian and the other North American, but a double celebration of our history and culture. Nice waistcoat by the way Geoff.

Building up to a strong argument for the pole to be housed in the Quays area - maybe a First Nations themed restaurant with the pole as a centre piece!
