Video: Salford Totem Pole ready for restoration
by Tony Flynn

The Salford Totem Pole is back at The Lowry Outlet Mall and looking in beautiful condition following specialist treatment by Salford company, Burnaby's.

The cleaning process has removed the layers of paint and dirt that have accumulated over the years, leaving the pole in its natural state and bringing out the original cedar colour.

The air abrasion technology involves a fine jet of air being fired at the pole; this jet is so fine that it can take the ink off a newspaper without damaging the paper.

Kevin Cranmer of the Kwakwaka'wakw tribe of first nation Canadian Indians will be coming to Salford in May to start the delicate job of restoring and repainting the cedar wood totem pole.

Cllr Coen who has been following the progress of the totem pole from day one, speaks about the work involved and what the future may hold regarding its location in Salford.
