Cadishead double loss but cap fine weekend
Cadishead Rhinos 12 Leigh Central Lions 28
Cadishead Rhinos played their part in a very hard fought and entertaining match on Saturday 15th November at Lord Street against a strong and skillfull Leigh Central side. For 55 minutes the Rhinos looked like they may upset the form book but the Leigh side found an extra gear in the second half to help them clinch a 28-12 win. It was the Rhinos who started brightly and scored first through Richie Hayes following some early pressure with Mark Woodfine adding the kick for a 6-0 lead. The Rhinos continued to pressure the Leigh line and kept them pinned back in their own half.
However in the 27th minute Leigh scored when Cadishead centre Karl Leighton lost the race to the ball following a chipped kick from the opposition. The conversion was missed leaving the Rhinos 6-4 in front. On 35 minutes fast hands and good backing up resulted in the Leigh side taking the lead when they scored a converted try to take a 10-6 half time lead.
It was nip and tuck for the next 15 minutes with the Rhinos coming close through two interceptions by Man of the Match, winger Paul Elliott. It was the Leigh side however who extended
their lead in the 56th minute with some fine play and added a second minutes later as the Rhinos started to lose their shape.
The Rhinos regrouped and responded well and after good work in the 70 minute player/coach, Jason Reed, playing at stand off put the impressive Matt Evans over the try line with a perfectly weighted pass that completely fooled the Leigh defence. Woodfine converted and the score was 22-12.
The Leigh side ended the try scoring in the 74 minute with their final converted try of the afternoon. Richie Hayes, Mark Woodfine and Darroch Robertson all had strong games the Rhinos who’s next game is away at Bamber Bridge on 22 November, kick off 2.00 pm.
