North Walkden 3 v Old Blacburnians 2 open age
Match reporter: Thomas Toole

North Walkden were dealt a crippling blow when four regular first team players were unavailable for the Lancashire League game against Old Blacburnians.

It meant a rare appearance for Paul Mc Closky and Dylan Ross and positional changes for Chris Ducker, Alan Litherland and Lewis Holland.

The game was all Walkden with Chris Ducker and Lewis Porter controlling mid field and Karl Payne and Reece Charlton non stop up front . Chance after chance were being missed, then after 30 minutes play Dylan Ross went on a storming run to go past the defenders to send in a perfect cross for Paul Mc Closky to slip his marker and fire home to open the scoring.Walkden went two up when man of the match Chris Ducker played in Karl Payne who went round the central defender before placing his shot just inside the post.Blackburn pulled a goal back when central defender Aiden Heaton slipped and was adjudged to have fouled the striker for a very dubious penalty which was blasted past Matt Jackson just on half time.

Walkden needed to score first early which they did when a pinpoint through ball from Reece Charlton found Karl Payne who hit a first time shot past the keeper to make it 3-1. With 15 minutes left the
visitors reduced the arrears with a towering header from their striker.Walkden got the chance to finish the game off when Mc Closky found Payne who squared the ball back to Porter who completely missed
the ball with an empty net in front of him.

The visitors threw everything at the defence, with Dylan Ross, Aiden Heaton, Lewis Holland and Alan Litherland all outstanding. Then with 2 minutes left keeper Matt Jackson pulled off an absolutely outstanding save to push a point blank shot onto the post and dive on the rebound at the strikers feet to give Walkden all 3 points.
