Swinton warm up for new season
by Chris Brierley
Swinton face their final warm up before the start of the new season when they play Warrington Under-20s at the Halliwell Jones on Sunday (2.30pm). The Lions have lost to Super League side Widnes and beaten Barrow Raiders, from Championship One, in their two friendlies so far. Coach Steve McCormack is expecting another tough run-out against the Warrington youngsters before the opening Northern Rail Cup game at York on February 12. He said: “We are looking to improve again and I expect a really good work out. “The young players at Warrington are in a good culture. “They have good coaches and are well looked after as far as nutritional advice and core skill. “It will be a good test for us and it’s one where we need to make sure we improve on the Barrow performance so we are in good shape for the Northern Rail Cup. “It’s going to be a good venue and I’m sure we’ll get tested like we have done in the other two friendlies. ”McCormack hopes to have Andy Gorski fit for his first run out, while Mark Smith and Gavin Dodd will be assessed after missing out in Barrow. Swinton's first home game at Leigh Sports Village is against Hunslet on February 19. Tickets are available from the club office on 0161 794 6150 or from the ticket office at Leigh by phoning 01942 487888. Bookings are also being taken for the CLUB 1866 match day hospitality package.
