Irlam left disappointed with three goal defeat

On a day when the top three teams in the division all failed to collect maximum points, fourth placed Irlam were left cursing their luck as they went down 3-0 against a Daisy Hill side who made the best of their chances, with three wonder goals that left the Silver St side reeling.

Early pressure in the game was all Irlam, with Jonathan Lyons moving the ball from left to right as Irlam probed for an opening, with left back Ardayfio for Irlam gaining plenty of possession down the home sides flank.

A ball pushed through from Lyons found Irlams Dean Tymon, whose push through to Yan Mayangele only resulted in the Irlam midfielder blasting high over the bar.

Moments later an Irlam corner taken by Aaron Swift was whipped into the area only for the ball to miss everyone and go out for a goal kick.

At the other end, a daisy Hill break led to the home sides Steve Johnson cross in from the right wing only for the ball to flash across an empty area and out for a throw.

Irlam again pushed forward with plenty of players up in attack, and the award of a corner for Irlam in the 21st minute saw a disastrous sequence of events unfold. A perfect corner from Lyons, high and curling into the Daisy Hill six yard box saw Irlam fail to attack the ball, allowing Daisy Hill keeper Adam Thomas a strong punch out which set off a classic counterattack.

The ball was pushed quickly out to the left finding the home sides no 9 Daniel Gregory, who quickly ran at Irlams defence before cutting inside and rifling a shot that hit the far post and rebounded high into Irlam's goal to open the scoring.

Shortly after the restart Irlams Mayengele suffered a hamstring pull and an early substitution saw Hutchison on in his place.

Again Irlam pressed, and a strong run from Chris Palmer saw him push a ball trough to Dean Tymon, only for it to agonisingly run away from the Irlam forward.

Again the play swung back in favour of the home side, and a lovely exchange of passing saw a shot from Daisy Hills Gregory, which was goal bound but for a great goal line clearance from Ardayfio.
Again Irlam forced a corner, and although the ball in was perfect from Lyons, Irlam just couldn't break through.

Again a strong run down the right saw Palmer cut the ball back which was whipped in by Lyons again with no final product.

On the half time whistle the Irlam supporters who had travelled were left scratching their heads at the 1-0 deficit.

The second half saw the home side gain the early upper hand, with Daisy Hills Damon Clynes first to try his luck with a low drive that went harmlessly wide of the Irlam goal. The next move was more threatening though, and an in form Gregory for the home side found himself in space and Gregorys hard drive goalwards forced an excellent save from Irlam's Lee Lambert.

Hutchinson for Irlam picked up the ball in midfield, and his accurate though ball to Palmer was hit goalwards only to again be cleared by the resolute Daisy Hill defence.

A promising ball down the left to Liam Duffy saw the young Irlam forward with the chance to run through into the penalty area, but opting to cut the ball back which ultimately led to Lyons striking the ball high over the bar as another chance went begging.

Irlam captain Chris Hilton manufactured a great chance from an Irlam corner, but his goalbound header was excellently saved by Thomas in the home side’s goal.

With the home side soaking up so much pressure, Irlams worst fears were realised in the 69th minute, when a powerful run down the left side from Clynes saw the Daisy Hill winger hit a loose ball into Irlams box, where the no 6 McNeil scored a wonder goal, diving low in the Irlam box to head in from an impossible situation to extend the home sides lead.

The last 20minutes of the game became very patchy, with both sides losing their composure as the game drew to a niggly close. Shots from Green and Hutchinson late in the game for Irlam went close, but with 2 minutes remaining a late break for the home side saw the in form Gregory collect the ball on the left wing, and a quick burst of pace gave himself enough time to loop the ball over the oncoming Lambert.
Three- nil on the final whistle was a miserable result for the Silver St outfit, who will regroup and prepare for their home fixture against AshtonTown this weekend at Silver St Kick. off is 3pm.
