A below par performance away at Widnes saw the Rhinos drop 2 points at the weekend.

The Tigers were allowed to dominate the early play and it came as no surprise when they took a 6-0 lead after 18 minutes. The Rhinos responded well and stepped up a gear and were soon level when Darren Hill split the Widnes defence for a fine try converted by Steve Hill.

It was the home side however who extended their lead on 30 minutes with another try to give them a 10-6 half time lead.

With both sides struggling to take control it was Rhinos hooker Martin Burgess who made the breakthrough as he crashed over for a close range try again converted by Steve Hill to put the Rhinos in front for the first time.

The lead was shortlived however as Widnes stormed back to score a debatable try to restore their lead to 14-12.

Cadishead had their chances to level the scores with 2 kickable penalties awared in the last 5 minutes however on both occasions they decided to run the ball and go for glory to no avail.

Darren Hill was best for the Rhinos closely followed by Karl Leighton, Darren Evans and lively hooker Martin Burgess.

Cadishead found themselves 12-0 down within 3 minutes against an on fire Bank Quay side on Sunday.

The Warrington side dominated the first half and rattled up 38 points by the interval.

The second half was a different affair as the Rhinos emerged much more resilient and some stern defending and aggressive running saw them compete much better.

Man of the match Jon Gaskell gave the Rhinos some much needed aggression, new signing Danny Reilly at hooker organised the pack well and centre Tom McCarthur troubled Bank Quay with his strong deceptive running.

The young Rhinos travelled to Golborne Parkside on Sunday morning where they faced a well organised and impressive Golborne side.

Cadishead competed well and despite losing they showed great spirit and attitude.

Ben Smith, Harrison Tyrell, Bailey Fairhurst and Liam Ashurst all had excellent games whilst the highlight of the morning was Lewis Busuttil’s length of the field try.
