Staff Picks - part 7 : Coronation Street behind the scenes
An apparent closet Corrie fan Mark Bright has suggested this article which was shot by Tom Rodgers when he and I visited the set to interview Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley Cropper) about the launch of the Sophie Lancaster Creative Writing Competition.

Just a bit of extra footage from the SalfordOnline archives here - featuring Julie Hesmondhalgh aka Hayley Cropper from Corrie giving us a brief tour of the closed set.

It was the first time the editor and I had ever been on a TV set, and the attention to detail was quite astonishing.

From the faded and scuffed dance music posters to the trompe d'oeil showing the Street continuing beyond its modest dimensions, it was hard not to feel that the most famous street in Salford (that's not actually in Salford) was somehow real and not a TV show at all.

To watch our interview with Julie about the launch of the Sophie Lancaster creative writing appeal (coming to a Salford school near you soon), hit the link below.

Special thanks go to CDK for the use of his track 'Silence Awaits'
