BCD Community Fun day in Salford
by Tony Flynn

The B.C.D. Community Gardens Association held a community fun day on Saturday at St Lukes Church Hall, Liverpool Street, Salford, to raise funds for their project which involves tidying up the gated alleyways behind Baltic Street, Chandos Grove and Derby Road.

The organiser Sarah Whitehead explained that the event which had tombola, cake stalls, book stalls, face painting, bric a brac, refreshments and a bouncy castle was to raise money to enable them to buy benches, tables, planters, gardening tools etc so that they could maintain their gated alleyways whilst making them a pleasant place to sit in with the garden furniture.

Earlier this year over twenty volunteers of all ages turned up and cleaned up the alleyways of weeds, rubbish etc in preparation for the hopefully soon to be installed garden furniture.

Meral Mercan-Derby from the Seedley and Langworthy Trust was on hand to give advice and guidance to the B.C.D. Association.
