Video: Salford officer gets Assistant Chief's job in Cheshire
by Tom Rodgers
The position of Assistant Chief Constable is one of the highest-ranking and most prestigious in the whole North-West. Worsley-born Jeannette McCormick began her career in Salford 20 years ago. She's now close to the top job at Cheshire Constabulary, a force only one-third the size of Greater Manchester Police. Here, Jeanette tells us how she manages to balance family life with this ultra-demanding job. Jeannette started in the force in 1989, and began her first post as a beat officer walking the streets of Broughton. It was a remarkably rapid rise through the ranks, within three years she was a staff Sargeant, making Assistant Chief Constable before the age of 40. She's an inspiration to women working in the police force - in what is a traditionally male, old-school environment. We find out how she rose to prominence and what advice she'd give to women wanting to make their way in the police force.
