Monton Lighthouse - Part 5
By Tony Flynn

In this final video on the wonderful folly that is the Monton Lighthouse we talk to owner "Barnacle" Phil Austin about the four-year construction of the forty-foot red and white structure.

We're also treated to home video footage from Phil and his friends, showing the building process of this unique lighthouse on the banks of the Bridgewater Canal, thirty-six miles inland.

We'll see the digging out the footings to the sandstone riverbed, pouring the concrete, modelling the arch and brickwork and the final topping off ceremony.

Phil deserves all the praise he gets for his outstanding efforts in bringing the lighthouse to fruition, it truly is a regional landmark and quite rightly a talking point with the locals.

Surely that knighthood can't be far away now?

I'd like to add my congrats to SalfordOnline. You've done a brilliant job with the Lighthouse story. I must comment on Tony Flynn's patience... you deserve a medal, not me. As for the night-hood, can you please make sure it matches my pyjamas? Thanks again, from Barnacle Phil.
