We ask Monton - Do you know what the Core Strategy is.....
by Emma Davis

Salford’s residents have until this Friday to have their say on how the city should develop over the next twenty years.

The information was to be distributed in the Council's magazine LIFE IN Salford, and via Facebook and the Council website, included in the links below.

The Draft Core Strategy document includes a vision for Salford in 2027, including plans for new homes and ways to attract new jobs and business to the area,

The council invites comments on the proposals from Salford’s people, including suggestions for alternative approaches, via an online form.

But every shopper we approached in Monton this morning seemed unaware of their opportunity to comment on the future of their city.

Do you know what the Core Strategy is? The deadline for responses is this Friday, 15th January.

The way the Council have handled the development of the Core Strategy so far has been one big sham. They could not organise a booze-up in a brewery! They said that they could not afford to inform each household individually and so everbody was informed through Salford Life and Online. Well many people did not receive Salford Life. Many who I have spoken to say that they did do not read it! Many have no computer but even if they did who would tell them to look at the council website? If the council had not written off millions in uncollected council tax maybe they could have afforded it. If any of these council leaders worked in the private sector they would be struggling to find a job right now. It has been one complete cock-up! They should do the right thing and extend the consultation period so that as many people as possible get to voice their opinion. Of course, the less people who do object to different aspects of the core strategy the easier it will be for the council to just do as they please, but that could not be the reason we have been so badly mis-informed........could it?
