Keen as Mustard to make Mancs smile
Manchester is set to become the nation’s friendliest city today, during the city’s first ‘Mustard Monday’.

Organised by local homeless charity, The Mustard Tree, ‘Mustard Monday’ encourages Mancunians to perform random acts of kindness across the city.

Paul Wenham – chief executive officer of The Mustard Tree – commented: “We’ve launched ‘Mustard Monday’ to encourage people to do something kind for someone else. It can come in the form of lending a hand to a stranger, donating something to charity or even just giving a cheerful smile to a passer-by.”

The Mustard Tree – an Ancoats and Eccles based charity that works to improve and rebuild the lives of the homeless and disadvantaged – is the driving force behind ‘Mustard Monday’. It hopes people will take the chance to look around to see how simple it is to make a difference to someone else’s life by doing something kind.

Paul continued: “Today is a day for making a difference; one where random acts of kindness are encouraged. The more people who join in, the further the ‘Mustard Monday’ seed will spread.”

The Mustard Tree hopes to make this day an annual event and will be spreading the word across social media. The charity has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years and the opening of the new Eccles branch signals the far-reaching help it continues to provide.

Paul concluded: “We’re all guilty of getting bogged down with our own problems, so this is a chance to appreciate what’s positive in your life and help someone less fortunate.”

Twitter users can join in the discussion using the hash tag #MustardMonday to tell others how they have made a difference to another person’s day and what they are thankful for in their lives.
