Holocaust Memorial Day in Salford
Two special events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day are taking place in Salford.

The first, at Broughton Community Hub on Wednesday 25th January, features a speech from Noemie Lopian, the daughter of a Holocaust survivor.

At the Speak Up Speak out event, a formal ceremony of remembrance will be held, and there will be an act of commemoration with eight candles lit and eight stones laid in remembrance of victims of the Holocaust and all subsequent genocides.

Members of the BBC Philharmonic will perform movements from string quartets written by Pavel Haas (perished in Auschwitz, 1944) and Dmitri Shostakovich.

The second event will take place on 27th January, running until 30th January at MediaCityUK.

Reverend Hayley Matthews, the chaplain at MediaCity, will lead a Holocaust Memorial and Meditation.

The event will be remembering the different people groups affected by the Holocaust in a series of short, led mediatations hourly beginning at 10am through to 4pm.

10am: Deaf Community
11am: Travellers
12noon: Jewish People
1pm: Political Prisoners
2pm: LGBT Community
3pm: Physically and Mentally Disabled
4pm: Final Meditation for the Day encompassing all people groups.

Every half-hour from 10.30am to 4.30pm there will be a series of short Holocaust Memorial films from The Legacy of Hope project.

There will also be the opportunity to light candles and remember people, families or people groups and there will be information about the Holocaust displayed within the Faith Room.
