Salford drug dealer ordered to repay almost £65,000
A convicted drug dealer has handed over his savings and could be forced to sell his houses to meet a confiscation order handed down by the courts.

Ian Barrick (born 26/04/1971), was jailed for five years and eight months in March 2011, after admitting supplying class C drugs (cannabis).

On 1 July 2008, officers from GMP’s Drug Unit executed a warrant at a house on Barff Road, Salford.

Police recovered boxes of cannabis that had Barrick’s fingerprints on. He was then arrested by police, who recovered more drugs from his home on Grove Street, Kearsley.

At a Proceeds of Crime (POCA) hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court today, Friday 20 January 2012, Barrick was found to have made £317,862 from his criminality.

As part of an investigation into his assets, detectives discovered he had £22,789.60 across several banks accounts and three properties. Officers also recovered and seized £700 during his arrest.

He was ordered to repay £64,247.74 (based on money in bank accounts and equity in property). He must make the payment with six months or face a further 18 months in prison and still have to repay the money.

Detective Inspector Glenn Jones, from the Financial Investigation Unit, said: “Time and again we come across a small number of individuals who have absolutely no regard for the law and lead lavish lifestyles funded by drugs and other crimes.

“But, what we are also seeing is these individuals being caught and sent to jail and then stripped of their assets.

“Not only is Barrick currently spending his days in a prison cell, but now thanks to POCA we have seized his savings, which he will not be getting back, and he could be forced to sell his homes to meet the order.”
