Salford Reds raise awareness for Pakistan floods
Salford City Reds joined have forces with Oxfam, tackling the Pakistani floods by volunteering their services in the Oxfam Emporium shop in Manchester Town Centre.

Working alongside Oxfam volunteers in the emporium the Reds staffed the till, steamed and priced clothes, restocked bookshelves and welcomed customers in the shop raising more than £200 during their visit

Salford City Reds Captain, Malcolm Alker said:

“The Reds have been really touched by what is happening in Pakistan. This is a disaster of long lasting consequences. Entire villages and towns have been destroyed. We felt that as a team we had to do something about it and help out as much as we could and we urge people to get involved in any way they can to assist the work of Oxfam.”

Serena Tramonti, Oxfam Manchester campaigner, said:

”The DEC Appeal for Pakistan has raised so far over £30m and the response of the UK public has been overwhelming. People from the North West alone have contributed by raising over £4m, and donations keep coming in steadily, which is unprecedented for an emergency appeal of this kind”.

Floods hit Pakistan at the end of July covering an area the size of England, killing 1600 people and affecting over 20m people.

Serena continued:

“Oxfam is working round the clock to rescue and relocate people and provide safe and clean water and sanitation, especially in the Sindh and Punjab area. So far we have been helping over 325,000 people- but this number is rising every day”.

“The help that Salford City Reds are giving us is invaluable- we need more contributions to make sure that we can assist as many people as possible.
The need has never been greater.”
