Salford woman breaks world record
Salford has many claims to fame in the world of art, literature and sport and now we have another world champion in our midst.

Take a bow, Melissa Thompson,27, from Salford, who has smashed the world record for tapping out the fastest ever text message.

She smashed the previous record for a wordy phrase by almost 10 seconds.

She wrote "the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasal-mus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human", in a superfast 25.94 seconds.

Obviously a sentence that we all use in everyday language.

The official Guinness World Record is currently held by American Franklin Page, 24, who wrote the same passage in 35.54 seconds in March this year.

The record, which remains subject to Guinness approval, was smashed by Thompson using the Galaxy S's "SWYPE" key pad, which enables users to input text without their fingertip leaving the screen.

The bar has been raised Salfordian's, lets see those fingers flying on the key pads.
