Eccles robber branded "stupid"
by Mark Bright An Eccles man who robbed a newsagent that he visited almost every day without bothering to wear a disguise was jailed for four year and branded "stupid" by the judge who sentenced him. James Stephen Hobbs aged 20 of Higher Croft, Eccles threatened the shopkeeper with a large knife and stole £80 on the 24th of October 2009. He was arrested shortly afterwards after being identified by the shopkeeper and was given bail. The next day he attempted to rob a newsagents in Boothstown armed with a machete, the shopkeeper fought back and chased him off the premises. At Minshull Street Crown Court on Wednesday 25th February, Hobbs was sentenced to two concurrent four year sentences after pleading guilty to robbery, attempted robbery, and two charges of possession of an offensive weapon.
