High moisture content Is another good reason to eat your fruits and veggies
The introduction of grains and other more concentrated low-moisture content foods has increased our fluid requirement from other sources advises diet experts, Tom and Dian Griesel.

The medical community has long reported that the amount of water an individual needs on a daily basis is extremely variable. It depends on many things like diet, metabolic rate, activity level, air temperature and humidity. Granted, water is required for our survival—but is it possible to get too much of a good thing?

“We encourage people to drink more water for several reasons,” say renown boomer generation health experts Dian Griesel, Ph.D., and Tom Griesel, and authors of the book TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust (April 2011, BSH).

“First, due to eating a low-moisture content, refined and processed food diet, most suffer from varying levels of dehydration,” says Dian Griesel. “Second, proper hydration assists in the fat burning process. Third, water can be used to fill our stomachs and by doing so, encourage the release of satiety hormones that allow us to feel full faster on less actual food volume.”

“People should also increase their intake of foods high in moisture content, which include fresh fruits, vegetables and even protein, which pre-cooked is around 70% water,” adds Tom Griesel. “Long ago, our ancestors ate a natural diet that consisted almost exclusively of such foods. Hunger and subsequent eating helped keep them hydrated, often without any additional fluid intake. The introduction of grains and other more concentrated low-moisture content foods has increased our fluid requirement from other sources.”

“We have found that some people go overboard by thinking that more water is always better,” Dian notes. “Generally, this does not present a problem other than more frequent trips to the bathroom. Try drinking a glass of water in the morning and again whenever you feel hungry or before meals.”
