City West to pilot restorative justice scheme
City West has started to pilot the use of restorative justice in Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) cases following the training of 4 officers. A private resident made reports of ASB perpetrated by a City West customer. The problems consisted of parking issues (the customer blocking the resident's driveway), unacceptable garden condition and noise nuisance. The customer then made counter-allegations of noise nuisance. The case was identified as being suitable for restorative justice and following discussions, both parties agreed to try to resolve the issues using these practices. A restorative justice conference was facilitated by City West's Neighbourhood Officer Kimberley O’Connor which allowed both parties to discuss the problems they were experiencing and an agreement was made: * The resident agreed to keep noise at their property to a minimum and improve the condition of their garden. * Both parties agreed to inform the other in advance of having a party at their property. * Both parties agreed to discuss with each other any concerns they may have in the future regarding parking or noise. Since the restorative justice conference, there have been no further complaints from either party. The private resident has since contacted City West to say that everything has been fine and that they are getting along better. Source: City West Housing.
