Welfare Action Week
City West is supporting The National Housing Federation’s Welfare Action Week taking place from the 10th to the 14th October 2011. The action week is designed to raise awareness of the harsh realities of the government’s welfare changes. The Government has proposed a number of changes to housing benefit which will push thousands of people living in social housing into hardship or out of their homes. Many families could be forced to relocate, potentially miles away from their child's school, support networks or place of work. The Federation is urging the Government to reconsider these measures and look again at what the true costs of pushing ahead with them would be. City West has already supported customers who are opposed to the measures. In April 2011 we supported a series of events with the City West Chatterbus organised by Local Area Panel member Lilian Johnson and Tenant Board Member Lynne Alderson. We are also supporting involved customer Terry Mumford in his petition against the proposed changes in an effort to gain 100,000 signatures and have the petition discussed in the House of Commons.
