Going the extra mile attracts national attention
Salix Homes have been chosen by the Local Government AssociationExternal site (LGA) to be part of a series of films showcasing how local public sector organisations are going the extra mile.

They were one of only a handful of local authorities and arms length bodies across the country selected to show the work they are doing.

The film, that was premiered at the LGA's 2010 annual conference and also available on the Local Government ChannelExternal site, highlighted two examples of where they have gone above and beyond the role of a traditional landlord service.

The first part of the film focuses on the targeted work they did earlier this year to help many of our more vulnerable residents during the bitterly cold winter that swept the country.

Elsie Berbiner of Lower Kersal who is interviewed in the film was one of the 1,500 customers we contacted to make sure they were managing in the cold weather.

The second part of the film covered the work of B4Box- a construction company they helped set up that specifically trains and employs local people who have been out of work for a long period.

Director of Neighbourhoods Services Sue Sutton who also appears in the film commented "It was a real honour that we were approached to be filmed by the LGA and great to hear that it was shown to authorities from across the country at the LGA annual conference this summer. It's reassuring that the work we are doing in Central Salford is not only making a difference to peoples lives but is also being recognised as good practice nationally."
