Joint investment provides £25 million boost for new homes in Greater Manchester
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) have today announced support for a major package of housing and regeneration projects totalling £25.3 million.

Forming part of the Greater Manchester Local Investment Plan (LIP), these key projects will deliver 670 much needed homes and provide a welcome boost for local jobs.

Last December £370m of HCA funding was earmarked for a 15-month plan for the area, since then close working between HCA and AGMA has helped further increase this level of investment across a range of projects.

Joint working in support of the Greater Manchester Strategy has prioritised schemes for investment in areas where they will have the greatest impact and are most needed. As a result of this successful collaboration, nearly £400m is now expected to be invested across Greater Manchester over the period covered by the plan.

Deborah McLaughlin, director for the North West at the HCA, said: “This is an excellent example of how we are working with our partners to understand and realise their local priorities for investment. We have worked hard with AGMA to provide the best possible support to these high quality schemes which are of great local importance and give tremendous value for money.”

Lord Peter Smith, Chair of AGMA, welcomed the agreement, saying: “At a time when public funds are diminishing, we are delighted to have been able to come to this arrangement with the HCA, through true partnership and collaboration.

"The new £25.3m allocations will ensure that we continue to deliver much needed homes across Greater Manchester, and will also help deliver our shared vision for the economic growth vital for the future of city region.”

The groundbreaking Greater Manchester LIP was launched by the HCA and AGMA in December 2009, agreeing future housing and regeneration priorities to co-ordinate investment across Greater Manchester.

It now provides the foundation for joint working and is ensuring that investment between HCA, local authorities, registered social landlords and developer partners is aligned to best complement improvements in health, transport and other areas as well as delivering efficiency savings.

Councillor Derek Antrobus, Chair of AGMA’s Planning and Housing Commission said: "The fact that we will be able to deliver 670 homes in these difficult economic circumstances is great news for all areas of Greater Manchester.

"We know the need for new homes that people can afford is as great as ever, and AGMA will continue to work towards a balanced housing market that meets the local needs of our residents.

"By working together with HCA and our partners in housing associations and private developers we have been able to get more for less by emphasising the importance of value for money.

"The projects in the programme have been able to demonstrate they can deliver on time and give real value for money for scarce resources.”
