New Salford X-Ray will cut A&E wait
by Mark Bright

New machinery at Salford Royal will cut patient's waiting times by up to a third, claim the suppliers.

Siemens Healthcare - who supplied the Ysio wi-D equipment - claim that examinations with the digital X-Ray system are up to 30% faster on average than Salford's previous equipment.

The new radiography equipment installed in Salford's Accident and Emergency department has a much larger capacity and should speed up examination times.

Phil Smalley is the Superintendent Radiographer for A&E and Theatre at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.

He said: “We needed a system that was capable of delivering high resolution images rapidly. We chose the Ysio wi-D because it produces high resolution images at a much lower dose."

The wireless detector also means the machinery is more manoeverable for patients at Salford Royal.

The Ysio wi-D has been installed in the Emergency Radiology Department and will be used for all casualty and trauma procedures and the examination of intensive care patients, for example the detection of cervical spine injuries.

A&E, along with the critical care, intestinal failure, urology and renal units, moved into Salford Royal's £200m Hope Building at the end of September.
