Salford Royal recognised for patient safety cultureBy: Tony Flynn Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating after winning a prestigious National Patient Safety Award for its ambitious Quality Improvement Strategy. Salford Royal were finalists in four categories and won the Changing Culture category. This award is the third patient safety award for Salford Royal in as many years. Launched in April 2008, the Trust’s Quality Improvement Strategy set out to save 1,000 lives and avoid 10,000 harmful incidents to patients over three years. Since its launch, Salford Royal has made significant progress in the three year strategy and is making a positive impact on the care provided to patients at the Trust. The judging panel commented: “Salford Royal is an outstanding organisation with a wide approach to changing patient safety culture. It demonstrated exceptionally strong leadership with impressive results.” David Dalton, Chief Executive at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust said: “Our Quality Improvement Strategy is based on deep staff engagement and has already delivered results and saved additional lives. We have an ambitious plan to be the safest hospital in the country and we are delighted to be recognised with this award for the patient safety culture we demonstrate at Salford Royal.
