Operation Venom
Operation Venom is currently running on the Metropolitan Division and aims to:
* Identify groups within the community who are using criminal activity to support their lifestyles. * Break these associations and disrupts these crime groups by utilising police and partner resources. * Utilise the Proceed of Crime Act to seize assets. A number of properties have been raided as part of Operation Venom 2, an initiative to target drug dealing and criminality in the area. It sees a team of officers, supported by partners at the housing associations, Trading Standards, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and other agencies, investigating all areas of a suspected criminal’s life including, their business interests, benefits and associates. The information they gather is used to build an intelligence picture and identify illegal activity. The organisations involved then use their various powers to make it more difficult for these individuals to pursue their criminal lifestyle, such as revoking licences and freezing benefits. The support of partners means that they are able to use their powers to make it more difficult for these individuals to pursue their criminal lifestyle, such as revoking their driving licences and freezing their benefits or reviewing their tenancy. Chief Superintendent Stuart Barton, Metropolitan Divisional Commander, said: “This operation has taken months of intricate planning and dedication by a large team of officers and we have made some significant seizures that will no doubt disrupt criminal activity in the area. “Our community has told us that they want to see those profiting from a life of crime punished and this initiative is our response to it. “We hope that it will send a clear message to those involved in criminality that their crimes will not go unnoticed and that they will face the consequences of their actions. “We will continue to use all the powers and resources available to put people before the courts.” Operation Venom - Day 1 results: Warrants 1.
