New public enquiry counter desk opens in Eccles
Talking to police about the issues that matter to residents living in south Salford is now even easier following the opening of a new public enquiry counter at Eccles Police Station. Previously, the station has been a base for local officers and has never been open to the public. However, in order to make services more accessible, police have installed a counter so that residents do not have to travel to their next nearest police station in Swinton. Officers will be available to help the public with things such as reporting crime, answering to bail, reporting lost property, dealing with the production of driving documents and providing crime prevention advice. Chief Inspector Vinny Greener from Greater Manchester Police’s Salford Division said: “The quality of service we provide to the people of Salford is of a high standard, however, there is always room for improvement and I believe the new enquiry counter will help us increase our accessibility and further develop our relationship with the community. “This facility is for the public to use and provides another opportunity for them to meet their local officers and discuss concerns they may have about crime and anti-social behaviour.” Cllr Lancaster, Salford City Council lead member for community safety said: “Being able to talk to the police easily is important for residents, so I am very pleased to see this local desk open in Eccles. The enquiry counter will be open Monday to Friday from 2pm – 4pm and is situated on Gorton Street. To report crime call police on 0161 872 5050 or for more information visit www.gmp.police.uk. You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information.
