St Patrick's Day - Don't leave your safety to luck
Tomorrow is St Patrick’s Day – when traditionally many people from across Greater Manchester will take part in celebrations. But remember it’s not the luck of the Irish that will keep you from harm! Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service want everyone to have fun if they are taking part in St Patrick’s Day celebrations, but remind people of some potentially life saving tips to avoid a fire in the home:- Take extra care if you’ve had a drink - distractions when cooking or smoking could leave your home severely damaged and put your life at risk! Plan an escape route – making sure that everyone in your home is aware of it, including guests. Don’t smoke when feeling drowsy or before you go to sleep, and ensure that smoking materials are put out properly. Take care when cooking – never leave unattended. County Fire Officer and Chief Executive, Steve McGuirk, said: “If you’re planning to have a drink to celebrate this St Patrick’s Day take extra care when cooking or smoking. Your best defence against fires in your home is to have a working smoke alarm and an escape plan. Following our fire safety tips could make the difference between you being here to celebrate next year’s St Patrick’s Day, or not.” Anyone in Greater Manchester with concerns about fire safety in their home can arrange a free Home Fire Risk Assessment – by calling free phone 0800 555 815 or visiting www.manchesterfire.gov.uk Due to problems with spam only SalfordOnline members can now leave comments.
