Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service support Manchester Pride Festival 2010
The 20th Manchester Pride festival is taking place on Saturday 28th August celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender life.

The event is attended by tens of thousands of people each year. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service takes part in the event each year supporting the festival and promoting fire safety messages to the local community.

Manchester Pride is an action-packed 78 hour festival full of music, film, arts events and theatre organised in aid of charities and community groups across Greater Manchester.

This year the Big Weekend runs from Friday 27th to Monday 30th August but the undoubted highlight is the Pride parade, which will travel through the heart of the city centre on the afternoon of Saturday 28th August.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service staff will be accompanying the engines which will take part in the main parade.

This year the parade starts from the Museum of Science and Industry in Castlefield at 1pm and follows the same route as last year along Deansgate, winding its colourful way through the city centre. The streets will be full of thousands upon thousands of spectators, young and old, gay and straight, friends and family.

By undertaking an active role in the parade it enables us to put across crucial fire safety messages to the public in a fantastically fun way. It also helps to demonstrate our commitment to equal opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff and members of the public.

Fire Authority Chairman Cllr Paul Shannon welcomed GMFRS’ participation in the 2010 Pride event:

“The annual Pride parade is a tremendous celebration where many people come to relax and enjoy the festivities; we’re delighted to once again take part in the Pride parade. It’s a real opportunity to get across a serious message in a fun way to thousands of people.”

I seem to smell the odour of rodent if you get my drift with this Asian lady's complaints, her grammar, "and am big Man Utd fan", I would look into this one a little more closely in case you are left with egg on your face by mischief makers, ask her to phone the office to confirm what she says?

Went on twitter for the first time today. I am a Salford born lady of Pakistani descent. My Muslim faith does not allow homosexuality and I put that to all the Salford councillors on twitter. They all blocked me off and would not respond. I have always voted labour but NEVER again... I am so angry with them. Thank you...Mevesh Panesar ..Broughton.

If my house was on fire I don't think I'd split hairs about the way the fireman was dressed. What would you tell him, fourth last guest? "Thank you but I'd rather burn to death"?

I can't recall a gay fireman in the Village People group, or have you been studying it a little closer than most of us?

a fireman is a fireman it does not matter about his sexuality you are the bigoted one trying to force peoples sexuality on the agenda

Mind you he might do a good job of the cleaning up afterwards, and pop a quiche in the oven to boot.

Not if he come dressed as one of the village people in fireman guise and big furry moustache i wouldn't.

So if your house was on fire and let us assume that you have children, you would not let a gay fireman come to your aid?. You are so bigoted, it's unbelievable, grow up.
