Man rescued from flat fire in Eccles
A fire investigation is underway after a man was rescued from a burning flat by firefighters Eccles. Crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were called to Naughton House, Worsley Road, Winton, just after 11.30pm on Sunday, December 18, 2011. Two fire engines from Eccles and one from Stretford attended and discovered a fire in a first-floor flat. The fire was well alight in the lounge and the rest of the flat was heavily smoke-logged. Crews rescued a 37-year-old man from inside the flat using a nine-metre ladder and he was treated at the scene by fire service trauma technicians before being taken to Hope Hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. It is understood that he left hospital a short time later. A joint investigation is now underway between GMFRS and Greater Manchester Police and early indications are that the fire was a suspected deliberate ignition. The lounge suffered 100 per cent damage by fire and the rest of the property suffered smoke damage. Four out of the six flats in the building were heavily smoke-logged. Source: GMF.
