House fire on Salford Precinct
On Saturday morning firefighters were called to a house in Pendleton after a toddler accidentally started a fire.
The fire was started in the bedroom of the house by the child playing with a cigarette lighter. At 9.20am on the 10th July , firefighters from Salford Fire Station were called to a house fire at Almond Close, Pendleton Salford. Two fire engines were called to the blaze in the semi detached house with many repeat calls being received whilst en route. On arriving at the scene the fire crews were confronted by fire in the first floor bedroom with smoke rapidly filling the property. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house with two firefighting jets. The fire was quickly brought under control however there was severe fire damage to the first floor bedroom and fire and heat damage through out the rest of the property. Prior to the arrival of the fire crews, 7 people had self rescued from the property which included 5 children and 2 adults. They had been alerted to the fire by smoke alarms that had previously been fitted by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service personnel and it was these that raised the alarm and enabled the entire family to safely leave the burning building. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation however, it is believed to have been started deliberately by the three year child living in the property.
