Charlestown tyre blaze in Regatta St
A fire amongst a pile of tyres in a yard in Charlestown needed 20 firefighters to bring it under control.

Concerned residents called the fire brigade just after 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 12 May).

Three fire crews from the Stretford and Salford stations initially arrived to Regatta Street, off Langley Road South, in Charlestown, but it became clear the fire required more manpower to keep it down.

Additional crews then arrived, bringing the total number of firefighters to over 20.

Reports were coming in to SalfordOnline this evening that the smoke could be seen as far away as offices in Old Trafford.

[UPDATE]
The fire was officially put out at around 8 a.m this morning (13 May).
The cause of the blaze is yet to be confirmed as is the extent of damage to the premises.

It has been confirmed that no water has escaped from the yard after the fire crews remained at the site throughout the night and there are no concerns for residents in terms of air pollution.

Any pictures from the scene are gratefully received - email to newsdesk@salfordonline.com.
