Preview: Coelacanth at The Kings Arms
From the imagination of one of the Fringe’s most lauded comedy talents comes an extraordinary tale of love, loneliness, tree climbing, and a deeply oblivious fish.

She’s a rising star in the sport of competitive tree climbing, he’s a quiet nonentity. How they fall in love isn’t the story.

Staying together when their world is filled with imaginary flatmates, underground Compliment Clubs and Satanic jazz bands – that’s the story.

Ben Moor is a writer and actor. He has created nine solo comic narratives for the stage since 1993, three of which were collected as short stories in 'More Trees to Climb' (Portobello Books).

For BBC Radio he created the sci-fi comedy series Elastic Planet and Undone.

As an actor he has appeared in the West End in A Busy Day, on TV in Knowing Me, Knowing You and The IT Crowd, and on film in Casanova and The Three Musketeers.

His writing as appeared in The Guardian, The Observer and The Idler.

Winner of a Herald Angel Award in 2005 and broadcast as a Radio 4 Afternoon Play in 2006, Coelacanth is included in More Trees To Climb (Portobello Books) a collection of Ben Moor’s one-man shows.

What some of the critics have said about Coelacanth:

"It's a real challenge to catch the subtlety and brilliance of one line before moving on to the next. Moor's observations brim with eccentric originality, they are presented with comforting sincerity making them feel familiar and personal." THE LIST (FOUR STAR REVIEW)

"The envy of more well-known comics for his hugely intelligent writing. . . A real treat." BIG ISSUE

"Surreal and charming . . . (The) script is sharp... clever and witty without being overbearing. A show of quietly confident quality, with a poignant ending full of resonances. This is thought-provoking stuff." METRO

"Told in a charmingly oddball manner, this is a delightful vignette of hope and despair . . . it’s also very wise." THE HERALD (FOUR STAR REVIEW)

"Moor's performance is sensitive and gentle, his voice soothing as it delivers jokes, and insights that fall one after another like leaves. One man, one hour – simple but effective, this is fringe theatre at its best."
