The Lowry launches search for best "Everyday Writer"
Write A Review On Spencer Tunick’s Everyday People And See Your Work Published On Leading Arts and Culture Website Creative Tourist

The Lowry and nationally acclaimed arts and culture website Creative Tourist have come together to offer aspiring writers and bloggers the chance to see their exhibition review of Everyday People: Spencer Tunick at The Lowry feature on both the Lowry’s website and Creative Tourist.

Spencer Tunick’s mass nude installation across eight different locations within Manchester and Salford generated a fantastic amount of on-line reviews and blog entries from participants and those who visited the exhibition.

Reviewers are asked to ensure that their entries are no longer than 300 words and to submit their entry to web@thelowry.com by Monday 6th September.

Celebrated writer and psychologist Philip Carr-Gomm will be announcing the winner during his talk The Naked Debate which will be held in The Lowry Galleries on Wednesday 15th September at 7pm. The talk will focus on how nakedness can be used to enlighten, empower and entertain and how, today, it is being used by ‘ordinary people’ to break free from feelings of body shame and stereotypical ideas about beauty.

The winner will receive a copy of Philip Carr-Gomm’s book A brief history of Nakedness which offers unique insights into this most intimate of subjects as well as the Everyday People DVD which document the Spencer Tunick installation.

Kate Farrell from The Lowry said: “The Everyday People installation was all about getting ordinary people from all over the country to play their part in creating a large-scale piece of art in Manchester and Salford. People can often feel that contemporary art isn’t for or about them and we felt that Spencer Tunick’s work helps break down barriers and make people realise that art can be inclusive, participatory and fun!

“The search for the best ‘Everyday Writer’ we have launched with Creative Tourist is a direct continuation of this aspiration, inviting everyone who has seen the exhibition to let us know what they thought and giving the best reviewer the chance to get their work broadcast to a completely new audience. It seems only right that in an exhibition dedicated to ‘Everyday People’ that we let everyone have the opportunity to write about it.

“We encourage anyone considering entering to make sure that they’ve really taken the time to explore the exhibition before writing their review - entry is free - and to remember that the best reviewers have a style that is distinctly their own - finding yours is the key to writing a great review.”

Everyday People: Spencer Tunick at The Lowry, runs until Sunday 26 September 2010. Entry is free.
